BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner Jeff Dunn announced the promotion of Chadwick Crabtree to Warden I of the Birmingham Community Based Facility for women inmates.
Crabtree has been with the ADOC for 18 years, beginning his career at Limestone Correctional Facility in Harvest.
“Since joining women’s services, Warden Crabtree has evolved into an exceptional leader who understands the unique aspects of the female offender population,” said Deputy Commissioner for Women’s Services Wendy Williams. “He has the experience and skills to effectively manage the facility’s daily operations.”
Crabtree spent the majority of his career at the Limestone facility before his promotion to lieutenant and subsequent assignment to the Decatur Community Based Facility in 2011. He was promoted to captain in 2016 and accepted an assignment to the Birmingham Community Based Facility.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to working closely with the staff, volunteers and the community,” said Crabtree. “Our efforts will be focused on providing a safe work environment for our employees and delivering effective reentry services to those in our custody who are preparing to leave the prison system.”
Crabtree holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Bethel University.
The Birmingham facility manages about 250 inmates who are assigned to ADOC’s work release and community work programs in Jefferson County.
