Public Records Policy
It is the policy of the ADOC to promptly respond to Public Record Requests, comply with applicable federal and state laws regarding release of ADOC Public
Records, and assess fees associated with the cost of providing Public Records. The ADOC shall respond to Public Records Requests with clear, open, and honest
communication and shall utilize applicable law to protect the privacy of any information that is exempt from disclosure. ADOC will comply with Public Records
Requests either by providing printed or electronic copies of available Public Records or by making Public Records available for personal inspection.
Submitting a Public Records Request
All requests for inspection and/or copy of public records must be made in writing and submitted
on a Public Records Request Form and

which is included with the Public Records Request Form, before submitting any request. All applicable fees
and costs of document production apply. Public Records Requests by telephone or fax will not be accepted.

public.records@doc.alabama.gov.
What To Expect
We strive to respond as promptly as possible to all public record requests we receive consistent with the demands of our
ADOC's functions as determined by state law.
The nature of your request will dictate how promptly we respond. If your request very clearly identifies a specific document, we will respond more
quickly than if your request requires substantial staff time to research. A request will require substantial staff time to process if it requires
difficulty in identifying and retrieving documents or taking measures to redact or otherwise withhold legally protected information.
In addition, we are permitted by state law to charge reasonable fees in connection with processing public record requests. We will
notify you in advance of the fees required.
