EXECUTION CARRIED OUT FOR DERRICK DEARMAN
ATMORE, Alabama – The execution of Alabama death row inmate Derrick Dearman was carried out by Lethal Injection on October 17, 2024, at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama. He was pronounced deceased by a physician at 6:14 p.m.
On October 16, 2024, Dearman had 3 visitors and 5 phone calls. On October 17, 2024, he had 6 visitors, no phone calls, accepted his breakfast and lunch meals, had snacks, and requested a seafood platter for his final meal.
Dearman was sentenced to death for the 2016 capital murders of Joseph Adam Turner, Robert Lee Brown, Chelsea Marie Reed, Justin Kaleb Reed, and Shannon Melissa Randall.
A brief press conference followed the execution at the Media Center with remarks from Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner John Q. Hamm. He also read a statement written by Bryant Henry Randall, father of Chelsea Randall Reed, brother to Shannon Randall, and brother to Robert Lee Brown.
The inmate’s remains will be released to the Escambia County Coroner and transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (Mobile Lab) for a postmortem examination.
