EXECUTION CARRIED OUT FOR CAREY DALE GRAYSON
ATMORE, Alabama – The execution of Alabama death row inmate Carey Dale Grayson was carried out by Nitrogen Hypoxia on November 21, 2024, at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama. He was pronounced deceased by a physician at 6:33 p.m.
On November 20, 2024, Grayson had 11 visitors and 3 phone calls. On November 21, 2024, he had 3 visitors, 2 phone calls, refused his breakfast and lunch trays, and requested the following for his final meal: Soft tacos, beef burritos, tostada, chips, guacamole, and Mountain Dew Blast.
Grayson was sentenced to death for the 1996 capital murder of Vickie DeBlieux in Jefferson County.
A brief press conference followed the execution at the Media Center with remarks from Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner John Q. Hamm. In addition, Jodi Haley, the daughter of Vickie DeBlieux, made a statement to the press.
The inmate’s remains will be released to the Escambia County Coroner and transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (Mobile Lab) for a postmortem examination.
