Correctional Officers Arrested on Drug Charges

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) agents arrested a correctional officer at the Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore on Saturday for attempting to smuggle illegal contraband into the prison.
At approximately 10 p.m., 25-year-old Darryl Jerome Bradley, of Millbrook, was arrested and charged with promoting prison contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana. Following his arrest, Bradley resigned from his position. He had been with the ADOC since January 2018.

In a separate incident, a second correctional officer was arrested in Bay Minette on Monday following a joint law enforcement investigation. Fifty-year-old Wiggins Washington, a correctional officer assigned to Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, was arrested at a local business and charged with conspiracy to traffic methamphetamines. Washington also faces additional federal charges for being in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.

Washington was taken into custody by agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations Task Force, U.S. Marshals Service, ADOC Investigations and Intelligence Division, ALEA, and Bay Minette Police Department. Washington did not immediately resign, but administrative disciplinary actions are pending. He had served as a correctional officer since October 2007.
