ADOC GRADUATING LARGEST CORRECTIONAL OFFICER CLASS ON RECORD
|
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) is excited to announce the graduation of the first class of Correctional Officers in 2025. With 144 graduates, this is the largest ADOC graduating class on record and it represents a trend of increased graduating officers since 2023. The current class and future hiring projections indicate that 2025 will be a benchmark year for ADOC academy graduation totals.
Increased Correctional Officer starting salaries, weekly hiring events, targeted recruiting, and improved workforce partnerships have been vital to this recent success. An example of workforce partnership, the ACTIVATE career readiness program is responsible for 29 of the 144 graduates. This partnership between ADOC and the Alabama Community College System, offers a no-cost pathway to a career as a correctional officer, helping individuals who may face physical or educational barriers meet the necessary standards.
The graduation ceremony will be Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Montgomery campus of Church of the Highlands, located at 4255 Taylor Road. The officers have satisfactorily completed 10 consecutive weeks of training to obtain Alabama Peace Officers’ Standard and Training Commission (APOSTC) certification and to become Correctional Officers.
The commencement speaker will be Matt Bostic, accomplished athlete, community leader, motivational speaker, and the Guinness World Record holder for the most free throws in 24 hours, an astonishing 21,001. He set the record to raise awareness about the 21,000 individuals who returned to prison in the previous year.
The ADOC acknowledges the crucial support provided by Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Legislature, which has significantly bolstered efforts to achieve rising hiring rates. The ADOC is actively recruiting for a variety of security and non-security positions at correctional facilities statewide. To learn more about these positions visit adocjobs.us.
