Factory Plants at Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women and Holman Correctional Facility Prioritizing Mask Production
|
The ADOC is empowering inmates to participate in efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our facilities. The Department began using single needle sewing machines at its traditional factory plants at Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women and Holman Correctional Facility for daily mass production of polyester/cotton-blend protective masks. In accordance with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations, these masks will play a critical role in protecting our inmates and correctional staff.
A total of 34,000 protective masks already have been manufactured, with an average of 3,000 masks being produced per day. ADOC staff will receive masks and bags with sanitation instructions, while inmates will receive pre-sanitized masks as well as pertinent information and instructions. Inmate masks will be cleaned using high-temperature water and sanitizing products. All masks are provided free of charge to the ADOC’s inmate population.
We thank everyone who has contributed to this project as we work proactively to help overcome this national health emergency!
