Minimum-In: Work assignments for Minimum-In inmates must be on-property at a minimum, medium or close security facility and may be supervised
by non-security personnel with the express approval of the Warden/designee.
Minimum-Out: Minimum-Out inmates can be assigned to off-property work details without the direct supervision of correctional officers. Minimum-Out inmates will
generally be assigned to Community Work Centers (CWC), with higher security facilities only maintaining a small number for job assignments requiring minimal supervision.
Minimum-Community (Min-Comm): Inmates in this custody are allowed gainful employment in the community on a full-time basis and will be supervised in community based facilities when not working.
Medium:(security level four) correctional facilities are designed for housing inmates who have demonstrated less severe behavioral problems. Inmates are considered to be suitable for participation in formalized institutional treatment programs, work assignments, or other activities within the confines of an institution.

St. Clair Correctional Facility opened in June 1983 and is located on 600 acres in St. Clair County. The facility operates the Alabama Correctional Industries vehicle restoration and a chemical plant and provides on-site classroom settings for academic/vocational educational programs through Gadsden State Community College. St. Clair also provides a total care medical infirmary with complete dental care, dialysis, a cancer unit, emergency room, and diagnostic services through a private medical contractor. St. Clair is also home for the Department’s “The New Outlook Therapeutic Community Program. St. Clair is classified as a close custody correctional facility.
