Decatur Work Release opened on May 31, 1981, with a capacity of 128 inmates. Currently the capacity is 400 inmates. The eleven-acre site, which the Center is located upon, is on Alabama Highway 20 and utilizes six of eleven buildings. Inmates are transported to jobs in Morgan, Limestone and Madison Counties. The Center has a Drug Treatment Counselor to assist recovering inmates with substance abuse aftercare and NA/AA programs. Decatur is unique from other centers in that each work release inmate is required to perform a minimum of three hours per week free labor for community service.
