State law allows those active in the Employee
Retirement System (ERS) to purchase service credit
for certain types of past employment. Purchasing
service credit may increase the amount of your
retirement income or allow you to retire sooner.
During an active member's first years of
participation in the ERS, he or she may purchase up
to four years of eligible military service provided
the member has had no previous period of
eligibility.
